The 96,000 gsf Telemedicine project at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) is a three-story, cast-in-place concrete educational facility located on the main campus with the School of Medicine.  The building program offers a simulated hospital in the lower level with operating rooms, exam rooms, emergency rooms, and microsurgical lab space.  It also includes a 350-capacity, three-story auditorium space on the ground level, along with a restaurant for the faculty, staff and students.  The upper levels hold conference rooms, office space, and teaching stations; all with state-of-the-art audio visual and media services. Pacific Rim’s scope included HVAC and plumbing.  HVAC consisted of (3) AHU’s, (12) fan coils, (156) VAV boxes, and (8) exhaust fans.  Plumbing consisted of (6) separate medical gas systems, vacuum compressed air, and medical air.  Piping consisted of extending the underground high temperature hot water and chilled water approximately 2,000’ from central plant.  Piping was 14’ deep, inside a concrete trench system and was pre-insulated permapipe type ranging from 8” to 16”.  This project is LEED Silver certified.
